British Prime Minister Andy Burnham told lawmakers Monday that a security incident at RAF Fairford last month was highly likely to have been coordinated in Iran and almost certainly directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Five British citizens in their 20s were arrested near the Gloucestershire airbase on suspicion of offences involving explosives and terrorism. They were later released on bail while the investigation continues.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected the allegations, accusing Britain of pursuing the wrong explanation and questioning the decision to release the suspects on bail.
The U.S. Air Force has since redeployed its bombers from RAF Fairford to the United States amid renewed security concerns. Burnham said British authorities were coordinating closely with Washington to protect the shared base.
