Britain, the United States and the Netherlands have issued a joint cybersecurity advisory warning about CHOSEN BRICK, a spyware family that authorities say has been used by Iranian state-linked cyber actors against dissidents, activists and journalists.

The advisory, published by the UK National Cyber Security Centre, the FBI and the Dutch AIVD, says the campaign has targeted individuals in several countries since at least 2025.

Attackers reportedly impersonate trusted contacts on messaging platforms including WhatsApp and Telegram before building rapport with targets.

They have used convincing files, including fake MRI results and software applications, to persuade victims to install malicious programs. CHOSEN BRICK can collect emails, messages, contacts and screen content and can access a device's microphone.

The NCSC assesses that Iran almost certainly uses cyber activity to support the repression of people viewed as threats to its government. Authorities urged people at risk to strengthen device security and remain alert to targeted social-engineering attempts.
