Ukrainian drone operators repeatedly detected and virtually destroyed U.S. troops and armored vehicles during a major military exercise in Germany, highlighting the growing importance of battlefield drone warfare.
According to the report, the encounters took place during the Combined Resolve exercise, which involved about 3,500 U.S. military personnel and Ukraine's 412th Regiment of Unmanned Systems.
The repeated virtual strikes forced U.S. units to "re-spawn" during the exercise, exposing vulnerabilities in their ability to conceal and protect forces from persistent aerial surveillance.
According to the report, U.S. troops adapted during the two-week exercise by dispersing their formations, improving vehicle concealment and making greater use of electronic warfare and counter-drone systems.
Army officials said the experience provided valuable lessons on how rapidly battlefield conditions can change when inexpensive drones are used for reconnaissance and attack.
The exercise has prompted the U.S. military to place greater emphasis on Ukrainian battlefield experience as it develops new training methods, electronic warfare capabilities and counter-drone systems.
The results also underscore how Ukraine's years of combat experience have accelerated the development of modern drone tactics.
