U.S. intelligence agencies are investigating whether Russia assisted Iran in drone attacks targeting CIA facilities in the Gulf, according to a report citing four people familiar with the matter.
Analysts are examining whether Moscow supplied targeting intelligence or advanced technology that improved the effectiveness of Iran's drone operations.
According to the report, investigators believe Russia may have helped enhance the accuracy of Iran's Shahed-136 drones through the Kometa-M satellite navigation system.
Officials said only a limited number of countries possess the capability to provide such sophisticated targeting support.
The Kremlin rejected the allegations, describing them as "fake news," while the White House referred inquiries to the CIA.
The agency declined to comment. Former CIA station chief Daniel Hoffman said Russia and Iran share a strategic interest in reducing U.S. influence through their expanding partnership, according to the report.
