The United States recorded 4,410 measles cases as of October 15, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, marking an increase of 330 cases in one week across 45 states and Washington, D.C.
About 96% of reported cases involved people who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown, highlighting persistent gaps in immunization coverage.
Pennsylvania has reported 1,260 cases this year as of October 16, along with six measles-related deaths. The state requested federal assistance, and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. confirmed support through a CDC Epi-Aid, which provides rapid field investigations during urgent public health threats.
The latest figures substantially exceed last year’s totals, intensifying concerns about the spread of a highly contagious disease.
