US Pushes Ukraine Peace Talks As Kremlin Envoy Heads To Miami

President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff

A senior Kremlin envoy is set to travel to Miami this weekend to discuss a US-backed peace plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, according to US officials cited by CBS News and the Associated Press.

Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, is expected to meet with President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

The talks follow recent meetings in Berlin with Ukrainian and European officials focused on security guarantees, territorial issues, and ceasefire terms.

The Kremlin confirmed preparations for talks but offered few details. The discussions come as Trump intensifies diplomatic efforts to end nearly four years of fighting that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.

Russia has demanded recognition of seized territory and limits on Ukraine’s NATO ambitions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signaled openness to security guarantees short of NATO membership but rejected further territorial concessions.

Fighting continues despite the diplomatic push, with both sides reporting drone attacks and civilian casualties. European leaders are also weighing new financial support for Kyiv.
