President Donald Trump criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after Ukraine launched a major drone assault on Russia, striking an oil terminal in St. Petersburg, according to CNN. The attack came despite Trump’s calls to halt strikes on Russian energy infrastructure while pursuing peace negotiations.

Russian authorities said their forces intercepted 1,015 Ukrainian drones overnight. The strikes also reportedly hit a logistics centre and a data centre. Local officials reported one death, five injuries and damage to residential properties.

Tensions have intensified after Trump eased certain sanctions affecting Russian energy supplies. Zelensky warned that the decision could strengthen Moscow’s war effort. He also accused Russia of repeatedly attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure despite Washington’s proposed energy ceasefire.

Zelensky said he remained in contact with US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to advance peace efforts. Meanwhile, Kyiv has raised concerns about restrictions affecting its access to Starlink and temporary interruptions to US intelligence sharing, which it says are critical to defence.
