Authorities in South Korea faced a setback on Tuesday after failing to guide a stranded shark back to the open sea, leaving the animal trapped in an artificial waterway in Busan for nearly two weeks.
The large marine predator, which has unexpectedly drawn hundreds of thousands of spectators to the city's North Port canal, repeatedly evaded rescue vessels and slipped past containment efforts.
While marine experts and local officials plan to launch a fresh extraction attempt using specialized nets, the prolonged urban confinement has intensified concerns over changing coastal ecosystems and animal welfare.
