The remnants of Post-Tropical Cyclone Rachel hammered Southern California with heavy rain, high tides, and massive ocean swells, causing widespread coastal flooding and severe structural damage along the shore.
Powerful waves battered the Long Beach Peninsula, washing over seawalls and severely damaging the area's historic boardwalk. Local authorities red-tagged several waterfront homes and issued coastal flood warnings across the region as emergency crews worked to reinforce protective sand berms.
Although weakened, the system continues to threaten vulnerable coastal infrastructure with dangerous surf and localized erosion.
