A five-story building housing displaced families collapsed in Gaza City on Wednesday, killing at least 12 people, including five children and four women, according to Shifa Hospital.
The structure, which had been heavily compromised by military strikes earlier in the conflict, caved in suddenly, leaving several others injured and trapped beneath the heavy wreckage.
Emergency civil defense crews rushed to the scene with heavy machinery to comb through the debris, as the tragedy underscores the severe structural hazards facing thousands of residents returning to war-damaged buildings across the enclave.
