Search and rescue teams mobilized across Nepal and Tibet on Monday to reach scores of workers trapped inside at least twelve flooded hydroelectric power plants following catastrophic regional flooding.
Torrential rains spawned severe flash floods and landslides, leaving at least 900 people dead and more than 4,700 missing across the Himalayan region.
Heavy machinery and specialized emergency crews are working continuously through thick mud and debris to clear submerged tunnels, as rising water levels hamper access to the damaged power infrastructure.
Regional authorities fear the casualty count will rise as communications slowly restore to isolated mountain communities.
