One person was killed and several others were injured Monday afternoon during a tragic incident on the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, authorities confirmed.

Local emergency teams and Cobb County police responded to the park shortly before 4 p.m. following reports of a rider falling from the ride.

The fatal incident forced a mid-air shutdown of the hypercoaster, leaving additional passengers stranded high above the ground on an incline until emergency crews safely evacuated them via a catwalk staircase. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are currently investigating the cause.
