President Donald Trump has reignited his long-running feud with NBA superstar LeBron James, calling the 76ers forward a "total disgrace" and demanding a public apology after video surfaced showing James moving during the performance of the national anthem.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Sioux City, Iowa, on Thursday night, Trump targeted James over footage recorded prior to Philadelphia's season opener against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. In the clip, while teammates stood largely motionless during "The Star-Spangled Banner," James could be seen practicing a golf-swing motion, going through a shot-form stretch, and shifting his weight along the sideline.
"What about LeBron James? Did you see that deal?" Trump told the crowd in Iowa. "During the national anthem, he’s practicing his golf swing. I said, 'What the hell is that?' It’s a big scandal kind of a story. I don't understand it."
Trump amplified the criticism on social media, posting that James "should apologize to all of those Great American Warriors and Heroes who died for the American Flag, and all that our Country stands for!"
