The World Food Programme (WFP) announced Monday that it would end monthly food assistance for 500,000 Palestinians in Gaza because of severe funding shortages, reducing the number of beneficiaries from 1.6 million to 1.1 million.
The agency said it received less than half its usual 2026 funding for Palestinian operations and urgently needs $450 million over six months to sustain critical work in Gaza and the West Bank.
WFP assessments indicate approximately 1.4 million people, or two-thirds of Gaza’s population, face crisis-level food insecurity. Officials warned the reductions could reverse fragile progress as winter approaches.
The agency also cut West Bank assistance in September, reducing beneficiaries from 400,000 to 200,000 amid donor fatigue and funding constraints.
