Candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani secured a series of victories in Democratic congressional primaries, strengthening the influence of the city’s progressive and democratic socialist movement.
According to the report, former New York City comptroller Brad Lander defeated incumbent Congressman Dan Goldman in the 10th Congressional District.
The results are being viewed as a significant test of Mamdani’s political influence less than a year after his mayoral victory.
The report said Mamdani actively supported candidates aligned with his positions on economic policy, immigration and foreign affairs, despite opposition from several established Democratic leaders.
The victories also mark another advance for the Democratic Socialists of America, which has gained momentum by focusing on concerns such as housing costs, childcare expenses and stagnant wages.
Republicans quickly seized on the results, arguing that the Democratic Party is moving further toward its progressive wing ahead of future national elections.
