Prosecutors have argued that Tyler Robinson targeted conservative activist Charlie Kirk because of his political views, offering their most detailed explanation yet of the September 2025 shooting at a Utah university.
According to court filings, prosecutors said Kirk's public opposition to same-sex marriage and transgender rights motivated the alleged attack.
They also pointed to Robinson's relationship with a roommate who was reportedly exploring gender transition, arguing it formed part of the broader context behind the case.
Defense attorney Richard Novak disputed the prosecution's interpretation, arguing earlier court filings failed to establish Robinson's state of mind. Robinson remains in custody and has not entered a plea.
A hearing is scheduled for September 1 after the defense files its arguments by August 18.
