President Donald Trump announced Monday that America’s 250th anniversary celebrations on the National Mall will include a large “Trump Rally” on Independence Day, according to CNN.
According to CNN, the announcement has drawn attention because Independence Day events are traditionally presented as nonpartisan national celebrations rather than events centered on a sitting president or political movement.
The report noted that Trump has previously faced criticism from opponents for placing himself at the center of public commemorations. His latest announcement follows other America 250 events in which he has played a prominent role.
Trump said the rally will feature military bands, orchestras, ceremonial units, patriotic performances, and music selections from his personal playlist. The broader National Mall festivities will conclude with a fireworks display, according to the National Park Service.
