Apple’s upcoming Wonderlust event is not expected to yield many surprises, with updates to the iPhone and Watch range that will be physically almost indistinguishable from their predecessors.
Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone 15 range at an event in California on September 12, 2023. At the same time, we will likely see new Apple Watches and more details on iOS 17 for iPhone and the radical overhaul of the Apple Watch operating system that comes with watchOS 10.
In terms of physical appearances, neither products will look much different from their predecessors, with most of the changes happening internally – improved cameras, modems, and processors.
The iPhone 15 will, however, replace its proprietary Lightning charging/data socket with a USB-C connector, in line with new European Union legislation that requires all phone manufacturers to adopt a common charging connection by December 2024 – to save consumers money and reduce waste.
In the decade since Steve Jobs unveiled the first iPhone, worldwide Google Trends data shows that people routinely rush to search “new iPhone” whenever the latest model is announced.
Recent releases, however, haven’t mustered the same online buzz, possibly down to the iPhone looking the same for several years, when rivals such as Samsung are developing folding handsets.
