President Donald Trump has announced an $8 billion relief package for American farmers facing rising diesel and fertilizer costs, according to CNN. The programme was unveiled at a rally in Kansas as farmers prepare for the crucial harvest season.

The administration attributed the pressure on agricultural costs partly to the war with Iran, which has disrupted fertilizer supplies moving through the Strait of Hormuz. Diesel prices have also climbed sharply, increasing operating expenses for farmers who rely on fuel-powered machinery.

The Agriculture Department’s latest initiative follows a $12 billion assistance package introduced in December to help farmers affected by trade disputes linked to Trump’s tariffs. The new programme, described as a harvest fuel relief plan, marks the second round of one-time payments in 11 months.

The announcement comes two weeks before the midterm elections, with several Senate races considered competitive. At the Kansas rally, Trump credited Republican Senator Roger Marshall with helping secure the assistance and promised further support if Republicans win.
