A Nevada jury has convicted Duane “Keffe D” Davis for his role in orchestrating the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, marking the first conviction in the nearly 30-year-old case, according to CBS News and The Associated Press.

Davis, 63, was found guilty Monday of murder with a deadly weapon in connection with Shakur’s killing. Prosecutors argued that Davis obtained the gun and directed the attack after an earlier confrontation involving his nephew and members of Shakur’s group. Davis did not admit to being the shooter.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal pointed to Davis’ repeated accounts placing him inside the white Cadillac used in the shooting. The defense argued prosecutors lacked independent evidence placing Davis at the scene, citing missing surveillance and phone records.

Shakur was shot at a Las Vegas intersection on September 7, 1996, and died six days later. Davis could face life in prison. The prosecution said the gang enhancement would be dismissed.
