House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin has launched an investigation into whether convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein acted as an unregistered foreign agent, according to CNN.
According to the report, Raskin cited previously released Justice Department and House Oversight Committee documents that he says indicate Epstein advanced the interests of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, advised the Russian government and served as a consultant to a former Israeli prime minister.
He argued that these alleged activities raise national security concerns because Epstein never registered under U.S. foreign agent laws.
The report said Raskin is also seeking access to approximately 2.5 million unreleased Justice Department documents related to Epstein and wants the department to clarify whether it has ever formally investigated him for acting as a foreign agent. His requests are unlikely to advance in the Republican-controlled House.
