Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Elena Kagan made a rare appearance before Congress on Tuesday to request additional funding for judicial security, citing a sharp rise in threats against federal judges, reported by CNN.
Barrett said explaining such dangers to her children was one of the most difficult aspects of serving on the nation's highest court.
Kagan told lawmakers that threats against Supreme Court justices have intensified in recent years, adding that the court continues to decide cases without fear or favor.
According to the judiciary's budget request, nearly $921 million has been sought for security, including an additional $15 million to strengthen protection for Supreme Court justices and their families. The report said serious security incidents involving judges rose 57% in 2025.
