Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Elena Kagan are set to testify before Congress this week as the federal judiciary seeks increased funding to strengthen security following a rise in threats against judges, reported by CNN.
According to CNN, Barrett has personally experienced several security incidents, including a swatting attempt at her home and earlier threats targeting her family. The report said serious security incidents involving federal judges rose 57% in 2025.
Although the hearings will focus on budget requests, lawmakers are also expected to question Barrett and Kagan on judicial ethics, court security, prediction markets and recent high-profile Supreme Court rulings, including decisions involving President Donald Trump's birthright citizenship order and global tariff policy.
