Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Elena Kagan are set to testify before Congress this week as the federal judiciary seeks increased funding to strengthen security following a rise in threats against judges, reported by CNN.

The judiciary is requesting nearly $921 million for security in its 2027 budget, including additional funding to expand protection for Supreme Court justices and their families. Overall, the judicial branch is seeking $9.7 billion in discretionary funding, a 4.5% increase from last year.

According to CNN, Barrett has personally experienced several security incidents, including a swatting attempt at her home and earlier threats targeting her family. The report said serious security incidents involving federal judges rose 57% in 2025.

Although the hearings will focus on budget requests, lawmakers are also expected to question Barrett and Kagan on judicial ethics, court security, prediction markets and recent high-profile Supreme Court rulings, including decisions involving President Donald Trump's birthright citizenship order and global tariff policy.
