Why Did China Block Meta’s AI Acquisition Deal

China has blocked Meta’s $2 billion acquisition of Manus, according to an official statement on Monday. The National Development and Reform Commission said the move follows laws restricting foreign investment and instructed both sides to halt the deal.

The report said the proposal had drawn scrutiny in both Beijing and Washington, amid tighter controls on AI investments and growing efforts to keep Chinese tech firms from relocating abroad.
