A U.S. military strike on a suspected drug-trafficking boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean killed three people on Sunday, according to U.S. Southern Command, as reported by CBS News and the Associated Press.

The strike is part of an ongoing campaign launched under President Donald Trump targeting vessels believed to be linked to Latin American drug cartels. The report said the operations, active since September, have resulted in at least 186 deaths across the Caribbean and eastern Pacific.

However, according to CBS News, the military has not publicly provided evidence confirming that any of the targeted boats were carrying narcotics. Officials cited operational security when declining to disclose intelligence sources or methods.

A video shared by Southern Command showed the vessel speeding through the water before being destroyed in an explosion.

President Trump has defended the strikes as necessary in what he calls an armed conflict with drug cartels, while critics continue to question their legality.
