The US has moved all long-range bombers stationed at Britain’s RAF Fairford back to American bases following an unspecified new threat, according to CNN.

A US official described the threat as a “real world incident” but provided no details. The unusual decision involved returning the aircraft home rather than relocating them elsewhere in the region.

RAF Fairford has hosted US B-1 bombers involved in operations against Iran and serves as an operating location for US Global Strike Command.

The move follows a British investigation into an alleged plot targeting the base. Police arrested five British men near Fairford on September 27 over suspected terrorism and explosives offenses, though no explosives were found. A British-Iranian dual national was later arrested.

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said there were strong indications Iran had played a role. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said a foreign actor was involved, without identifying one. Iran has denied any connection and called the allegations baseless.

UK authorities declined to comment on US military operations.
