President Donald Trump said he would be "quite disappointed" if reports that China is supplying weapons to Iran prove true, describing the development as surprising while addressing the issue on Wednesday.
According to Reuters, Iran is reportedly seeking to acquire between 300 and 400 Chinese-made man-portable air defense systems through Pakistan.
The report said both China's Foreign Ministry and Pakistan's armed forces have denied any involvement in the alleged transaction.
The reported deal, valued at between $60 million and $70 million, involves FN-16 and QW-12 missile systems.
During Senate testimony, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said China, Russia and Iran continue to demonstrate growing strategic alignment.
He added that the United States remains well ahead of China in artificial intelligence and cautioned against overregulating American innovation.
