Former Vice President Kamala Harris is returning to the campaign trail Tuesday to support Democratic Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, according to CNN.
Harris and El-Sayed are scheduled to discuss Black maternal healthcare in Detroit. She also plans meetings with Michigan Democratic leaders and faith groups focused on voter turnout. The appearance comes as Democrats seek to retain the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Gary Peters.
El-Sayed won the Democratic primary with strong progressive support but faces challenges in unifying the party after a divisive contest.
Harris narrowly lost Michigan in 2024, making the state politically significant for Democrats. Michigan will also be among the early states in the party’s next presidential nominating process.
Harris has said she is considering a 2028 presidential campaign but has not announced a decision.
