President Donald Trump renewed his criticism of NATO during the alliance's summit in Ankara, questioning unity among members and accusing several allies of failing to spend enough on defense.

Trump singled out Spain, calling it a poor NATO partner and urging the United States to cut trade and travel ties because Madrid has not committed to NATO's target of spending 5% of GDP on defense by 2035.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte defended the alliance, saying the United States remains fully committed to NATO despite policy differences.
