Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and appointed Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi to lead the country's armed forces.
The leadership change follows days of protests in Kyiv and other cities calling for reforms within Ukraine's military command.
According to the report, demonstrators criticized Syrskyi's leadership style and demanded the return of former defense official Fedorov, who was removed from his post on July 15.
Fedorov alleged that Syrskyi obstructed military modernization efforts and influenced his dismissal, accusations the former commander has denied.
Drapatyi, 43, is viewed as part of a new generation of military leaders with an emphasis on technological innovation.
The report said he will be tasked with advancing reforms while expanding Ukraine's "Drone Line" strategy to strengthen defenses and slow Russian advances along the front.
