Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy marked the fifth anniversary of Russia’s invasion by declaring that Russian President Vladimir Putin has failed to achieve his war objectives.
In a video address, Zelenskyy said Ukraine has preserved its independence and statehood despite four years of fighting.

He said Kyiv remains committed to securing a strong and lasting peace that must be accepted by the Ukrainian people. The war, which began on February 24, 2022, has killed hundreds of thousands and devastated large parts of eastern and southern Ukraine.
U.S.-backed talks resumed last year but have failed to stop the fighting. Russia continues to occupy roughly 20 percent of Ukrainian territory and is demanding full control of the Donetsk region. Ukraine has rejected those terms and insists on firm security guarantees.
European leaders, including Ursula von der Leyen, visited Kyiv to reaffirm support. Meanwhile, Moscow has intensified strikes on energy infrastructure, worsening conditions for civilians during winter.
