Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged airlines to avoid Russian airspace, warning that Kyiv’s expanding drone campaign is creating growing risks for commercial aviation.
According to CNBC, Zelenskyy said airlines, insurers and operators using major Russian airports should recognize the changing security environment. He said Ukraine’s increased drone strikes would put more unmanned aircraft into Russian skies, while maintaining that civilian aviation was not being deliberately targeted.
Russian President Vladimir Putin responded by accusing Kyiv of “state terrorism” and said Moscow would continue its attacks on Ukraine. Putin also rejected the prospect of renewed negotiations, according to the report.
The warning comes as Ukraine targets Russian oil refineries and logistics infrastructure with long-range drones. Meanwhile, Russia has threatened major strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, raising concerns over another difficult winter for Kyiv.
