The recently disclosed email exchanges between convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and renowned economist Larry Summers illustrate a predatory dynamic in academia, in which professional support is implicitly traded for sex. A more equitable future requires an academic culture that repudiates the perverse norms of the old boys’ club.
