Amazon plans to expand its Prime Air drone delivery service to nearly 500 U.S. cities by the end of this year, bringing lightweight packages to suburban customers in as little as 30 minutes.
The expansion comes nearly 13 years after founder Jeff Bezos first unveiled the drone delivery concept.
According to the report, Prime members will receive free drone delivery on orders above $50, while smaller orders will carry a $2.99 fee. Non-Prime customers will pay $4.99 for packages weighing up to five pounds.
CEO Andy Jassy aims to reach communities representing about 30 million customers by the end of the year. Amazon expects its scalable drone network could eventually deliver 500 million packages annually by the end of the decade.
