Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has unveiled Helios, its first rack-scale artificial intelligence system designed to compete directly with Nvidia's AI infrastructure.
According to CNBC, Microsoft has become the latest major customer and will deploy Helios in Azure data centers later this year alongside companies including Meta, OpenAI, Oracle and Tata Consultancy Services.
Microsoft said the system will power AI inference, Azure AI services and new cloud computing instances built on AMD's latest processors.
AMD executives told CNBC the company is targeting lower ownership costs than competing platforms, while analysts said Helios could significantly expand AMD's share of the AI data center market, currently dominated by Nvidia.
According to the report, AMD expects its AI data center business to generate tens of billions of dollars in annual revenue beginning in 2027, with Helios driving much of that growth.
