California Senator Adam Schiff has urged Quebec to end its boycott of American wine, arguing that the restrictions are harming U.S. wine producers.
According to the report, Schiff wrote to Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette in June, asking the province to resume purchases of American wine after Canadian liquor boards halted imports in response to U.S. trade measures.
While Saskatchewan and Alberta have resumed stocking U.S. spirits, Ontario and Quebec continue to enforce the restrictions.
According to the report, Fréchette rejected Schiff's request, saying the boycott would remain in place until the United States withdraws what Quebec considers unjustified tariffs and changes its trade policies.
The dispute has also drawn attention in Washington, where lawmakers from both parties have raised concerns about the impact of the Canadian restrictions on American producers.
