CBS News Chief Quits Amid Trump Lawsuit Over Harris Interview

CBS News President Wendy McMahon

CBS News President Wendy McMahon is stepping down amid mounting tensions with President Donald Trump and a $20 billion lawsuit accusing CBS and Paramount of rigging an election interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris.

“It’s become clear the company and I do not agree on the path forward,” McMahon said in a memo, according to The New York Times. Her exit follows the recent resignation of 60 Minutes Executive Producer Bill Owens, whom she had publicly supported amid the legal fallout.

Trump claims the Harris interview was deceptively edited to downplay her confusion, calling it “election fraud” and a “true winner” of a case. Paramount is reportedly considering a settlement, with chairwoman Shari Redstone favoring resolution over a potentially damaging discovery phase.

The lawsuit and its timing are particularly sensitive, as Redstone seeks Trump administration approval for a multibillion-dollar sale of Paramount to Skydance, a Hollywood studio.
