Chinese President Xi Jinping called for closer cooperation with Vietnam to counter unilateralism and protect global trade, during Vietnamese leader To Lam’s state visit, according to China’s foreign ministry.

Xi urged both nations to safeguard supply chains and promote stable trade flows as the Iran war disrupts global energy markets. The meeting comes amid rising geopolitical tensions and U.S. tariff pressure under President Donald Trump.

Vietnam signaled willingness to expand cooperation in trade, infrastructure and advanced technologies such as AI and semiconductors. Lam described the two economies as complementary and aimed at shared development.

The visit reflects broader diplomatic activity in Beijing, with multiple global leaders engaging China as uncertainty rises over energy supplies and trade routes.

Despite ongoing South China Sea disputes, both countries have maintained stable ties. Vietnam’s outreach highlights its strategic priority to deepen economic links with China.
