President Donald Trump's claims that his administration is in talks with China over tariffs have been once again denied by Beijing. In a Time magazine interview conducted April 22 and published today, Trump insisted Chinese President Xi Jinping “has called him” and that discussions are underway. “They had meetings this morning,” Trump told reporters at the White House, declining to offer specifics on who "they" is.
However, China’s foreign ministry firmly refuted the statements, posting on X:
China and the U.S. are NOT having any consultation or negotiation on #tariffs. The U.S. should stop creating confusion. pic.twitter.com/OrapuQzJRW

On Truth Social, Trump also accused China of backing out of a Boeing deal and blamed the country for the continued flow of fentanyl into the U.S. China dismissed both allegations in a separate statement.
