Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday repeatedly declined to comment on how he felt about Democratic Texas Rep. Al Green’s disrupting President Donald Trump’s congressional address.

Green interrupted the beginning of Trump’s address on Tuesday, leading to him getting ejected from the chamber. CNN host John Berman asked Schumer three times on “CNN News Central” about his thoughts on Green’s actions, but Schumer deflected each time.

“It was like four minutes into the speech when Congressman Al Green was yelling at the podium and he was escorted out,” Berman said. “What was going through your head as you heard the congressman yelling?”

“Well, look, the bottom line is lots of people are frustrated,” Schumer answered. “But the best way to protest what Trump is doing is doing what we are doing and many senators and many congressmen are doing, and that is organizing against these horrible policies of calling Social Security a ponzi scheme and then cutting, slashing people’s social security offices.”

Schumer attempted to continue speaking, but Berman repeatedly interrupted, finally getting his question through.

“Would you rather that he not yell?” the anchor asked.

Schumer did not directly address Berman’s question, instead discussing how important he thinks it is to “organize” against Republicans.

The anchor tried one more time, asking if Schumer preferred the approach of Democratic Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin, who delivered the rebuttal to Trump’s speech, over Green’s and the Democrats who held signs in the chamber.

Schumer again did not address his feelings about Green, taking the opportunity to praise Slotkin and attack Trump.

Green rose in the chamber and told Trump that he “had no mandate” before being removed. A CNN poll conducted by SSRS on Tuesday found that 80% of the largely Republican audience that viewed the speech felt Green’s disruption was “inappropriate.”

However, radio host Charlamagne Tha God praised Green for his actions on Wednesday and asserted that additional Democrats should have joined him.

“I don’t mind that kind of disruption. I actually wish that the Democrats would have been more disruptive. I didn’t know you could kick people out for that though … I believe Democrats really dropped the ball there to make more of a statement,” Charlamagne said. “Because Al Green is a old man — he got a cane …  I feel like when he stood up and he was disruptive and he made that noise, more Democrats should have stood up with him. ‘Cause they can’t kick everybody out, right?”
