Utah Judge Finds Probable Cause In Charlie Kirk Murder Case

A Utah judge has ordered Tyler Robinson to stand trial for the aggravated murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, leaving him potentially eligible for the death penalty.

District Judge Tony Graf found probable cause Tuesday following a hearing over the September 10, 2025, shooting at Utah Valley University.

Prosecutors allege Robinson shot Kirk from a rooftop about 415 feet away during an outdoor university event, prompting a more than 30-hour manhunt before his surrender.

Judge Graf ruled that the alleged shooting endangered other people in the crowd, a factor that makes the aggravated murder charge eligible for the death penalty. Robinson pleaded not guilty.

The next preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 23, when officials are expected to establish an official trial date.

They also pointed to Robinson’s relationship with a roommate who was reportedly exploring gender transition, arguing it formed part of the broader context behind the case.
