Deportation Battle Intensifies Over Alleged Gang Member Kilmar Abrego Garcia Held by ICE

Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a 30-year-old facing federal human smuggling charges, was detained again by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after checking in with officers in Baltimore, CNN and the New York Post reported.

According to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, Abrego Garcia is an MS-13 gang member and child predator whom President Donald Trump will not allow to “terrorize American citizens any longer.”

Federal officials are weighing deportation to Uganda, though his attorneys argue that such a move weaponizes immigration law. They claim the administration offered deportation to Costa Rica in exchange for a guilty plea.

Abrego Garcia had previously been deported to El Salvador in March but was returned to the U.S. in June to face trial.

His supporters, including immigration activists and Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen, frame his case as retaliation for challenging the administration’s immigration enforcement. His federal trial in Tennessee is scheduled for January.
