A New York election worker has alleged that two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents confronted her inside a Syracuse polling place regarding social media posts she made about a fatal law enforcement shooting, prompting criticism from local election officials over the presence of federal agents at a voting site.

Poll worker Paigelynne Gonyea said the agents, including Special Agent Dave Brody, questioned her about Instagram posts identifying an ICE officer involved in the January fatal shooting of Renee Good.

Gonyea maintained that her posts simply repeated information already reported publicly. She said the agents presented a letter warning of possible legal consequences and urged her to sign it while she was on duty.

Onondaga County Election Commissioner Dustin Czarny and Republican Elections Commissioner Kevin Ryan condemned the incident, arguing that law enforcement officers should not enter polling places except in emergencies, citing state and federal election protections designed to preserve the integrity of the voting process.

The encounter has renewed debate over the role of federal law enforcement at polling locations, with critics raising concerns about potential intimidation, while federal authorities have not publicly responded to the allegations.
