SpaceX launched an uncrewed Dragon cargo spacecraft Tuesday, carrying more than 6,300 pounds of supplies, research equipment and spare parts to the International Space Station, according to CBS News.
The capsule is scheduled to dock with the station early Thursday, delivering crew provisions, scientific equipment, spacewalking supplies and computer hardware. Its cargo also includes fresh food and holiday treats for astronauts.
The mission carries the final two sets of upgraded roll-out solar arrays for the station. These additions will replace declining power capacity from aging solar panels. Each new array can generate 20 kilowatts, helping restore the station’s electrical output.
The installations are expected to take place during spacewalks later this month and in early November.
