Man charged with mailing hundreds of letters containing powder to officials ahead of the election

Federal authorities have charged Oklahoma resident Robin Martin with allegedly mailing hundreds of letters containing white powder to public officials ahead of the 2024 and 2026 US elections.

The FBI confirmed in a court filing that tested samples contained nonhazardous substances, including yeast or flour. However, investigators have not completed testing all the letters.

Martin faces federal charges of conveying a hoax and mailing threatening communications. He was expected to make an initial court appearance in Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

The investigation follows nationwide reports of suspicious mail sent to congressional and election offices. The Senate Sergeant at Arms said law enforcement agencies had worked to intercept additional letters, although some could still reach their intended recipients.

Authorities had previously urged recipients to treat suspicious mailings as potentially hazardous while investigations continued.
