A Washington, D.C., grand jury has indicted former Olympian David Hearn on a felony charge of property destruction in connection with alleged damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
If convicted, Hearn could face a maximum prison sentence of 10 years under federal law.
Prosecutors claim his actions caused more than $1,000 in additional damage to the recently renovated pool, which reopened last month following a $14 million restoration project. The site has since experienced issues including peeling sealant and algae growth.
Prosecutors also confirmed they are reviewing several other incidents involving the reflecting pool, some of which may result in misdemeanor charges.
The case has drawn wider attention amid debate over whether the pool's deterioration resulted from vandalism, construction defects or ongoing maintenance challenges.
