Greenwater Services, the company overseeing water quality at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, has found itself at the center of political controversy as scrutiny grows over President Donald Trump's broader restoration project, according to CNN.

The Ohio-based company was awarded a $1.7 million no-bid contract to deploy its ozone nanobubbler technology, which injects microscopic oxygen bubbles into the water to combat algae and bacteria.

Company president Chas Antinone said the technology has performed as expected and stressed that the firm's role is technical, not political.

The report said questions intensified after algae briefly returned when temporary treatment units were removed before the permanent system became operational.

Greenwater has since hired a crisis communications firm as attention shifted to its contract and the political donations of co-owner J.J. Cafaro.

Industry experts described the technology as promising but noted its long-term effectiveness in the 6.5 million-gallon Reflecting Pool remains unproven.
