Saif al-Islam Gadhafi, the son of Libya’s former dictator Moammar Gadhafi, was shot dead in an apparent assassination at his home in Zintan, according to his political team. He was 53, CNN reported.
A political adviser said four masked gunmen stormed the residence, disabled security cameras, and fatally shot him.

Libyan authorities have not officially confirmed the killing. The International Criminal Court, which had long sought his arrest over alleged crimes against humanity, has not commented.
Once seen as his father’s heir, Saif al-Islam later aligned with the regime’s violent crackdown during Libya’s 2011 uprising. He was detained after the regime’s fall and released in 2017 under an amnesty law.
In recent years, he sought a political comeback and promoted national reconciliation. His team has called for an independent international investigation into the killing.
