House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) announced he will not seek re-election in 2026, ending a decade-long tenure in Congress. Arrington, a staunch fiscal conservative, told Fox News Digital he believes public office should be a “temporary stint in stewardship, not a career.”
He highlighted his role in helping President Donald Trump pass a major budget package, calling it a “generational impact opportunity.”

Arrington said he is most proud of reshaping his party’s mindset around fiscal responsibility and raising awareness about the challenges facing rural America, from food security to energy independence.
The Texas lawmaker pledged to continue advancing budget reforms and pushing for another budget reconciliation bill before leaving office. He expressed confidence in Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson to continue championing fiscal discipline.
Arrington said he plans to remain “in the fight” after Congress but also looks forward to spending more time with his family.
