A Washington state immigration attorney is facing lawsuits and an ethics investigation over allegations that she filed fraudulent humanitarian visa applications for thousands of immigrants without their knowledge, according to the Associated Press.

The lawsuits accuse Alexandra Lozano of fabricating claims of domestic abuse and human trafficking to secure visas and work permits, while charging clients tens of thousands of dollars.

The report said she also relied on unlicensed staff, copied client signatures and processed applications through an assembly-line system. Lozano denies wrongdoing and voluntarily surrendered her law license after her firm, Luz del Camino Legal, closed this month.

According to the AP, Lozano's signature appears on more than 53,000 pending immigration cases, though it remains unclear how many contain false claims. Many former clients now face removal proceedings or legal uncertainty.

The report added that the Trump administration has tightened humanitarian visa rules, citing concerns about widespread fraud, while advocates argue enforcement should focus on dishonest attorneys rather than legitimate applicants.
